About Us

Hi! We’re Constellation: a complex DID system, followers of Christ, mom to our kiddos, authors, artists, poets, warriors, and mental health advocates. We are passionate about bringing the hope of Jesus to trauma survivors, and bringing awareness of trauma to the church.

Why We Do What We Do

We believe that childhood trauma, especially the rampant epidemic of childhood sexual abuse, has profound effects on society, impacting mental health, relationships, gender identity, sexuality, and a host of other serious struggles that are prominent and controversial in Western culture today. As the church seeks to share Christ’s love with the world around us, understanding these mental health issues and (sadly common) afflictions can make a huge difference in our ability to meet today’s culture with the compassion of Jesus.

Due to our own trauma history, we have dissociative identity disorder (also known as multiple personality disorder). While we were raised in the church and knew Christ from a young age, we didn’t know about the disorder or the trauma until our late twenties. In the years since, we have found that our lived experiences with PTSD, trauma and abuse, dissociation, gender dysphoria, and other struggles have given us a strange but unique Christian perspective into some of these hot button issues.

So many people with DID (or other effects of severe trauma) feel utterly alone, misunderstood, and stigmatized. This is just as common (if not devastatingly more common) in the church, where mental illness is frequently dismissed as simply spiritual warfare, or even a spiritual weakness. As human beings we are embodied creatures: we are not just souls but also bodies, with brains, nervous systems, memories, and feelings, all of which are impacted by trauma and mistreatment. And oftentimes children who grew up abused in the church feel unheard and unseen, with no justice for the crimes committed against them. Many of these are the exvangelicals and religious “nones” we see speaking out online today.

Sadly, we have found that many people with DID in particular have been greeted with more compassion and respect outside of the church than inside of it. This should not be!

Our goal in speaking out and advocating is to help the church create a culture where trauma is met with understanding and compassion, abuse is taken seriously, and survivors feel seen, cared for, and respected even more in the family of Christ than anywhere else.

And if you are a fellow trauma survivor yourself, we share about our heart and life with you because God’s hand is at work in not just our story but yours too. We hope our testimony and what we share can make you feel less alone, help you connect with loved ones and point them to resources, or give you hope again that Christ is worth pursuing, even in the darkness.
